Philanthropy in Delta Zeta
Philanthropy and Service is a integral part of the Delta Zeta sorority at USF. It is not only a way to reach out to our community, in and outside of USF, but a way to bring us together and strengthen the sisterhood we pride ourselves on. In 2006, Delta Zeta voted to make the Speech and Hearing Impaired and the Starkey Hearing Foundation, and children with terminal illnesses who participate in the Painted Turtle Camp, our National Philanthropies that are supported by collegiate and alumnae chapters. Delta Zeta also supports local philanthropies that we hold very close to our hearts. One of our local philanthropies is the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to honor our sister Ali Facella who passed away in 2006, and raise awareness.
In addition, in the spring of 2018, Xi Lambda adopted a local service project call Project Glimmer. Project Glimmer inspires at-risk girls and women to believe in themselves by letting them know their community cares. They give beautiful gifts of jewelry and beauty products at meaningful times including Mother's Day, graduation, birthdays and the holidays. Their slogan is: A girl who believes in herself can change the world. As women, Xi Lambda loves supporting Project Glimmer in their mission to foster confidence within girls and women. Just this semester (spring 2018) we raised a total of $9,581.76 in in-kind gifts all donated to Project Glimmer.

The spring of 2018, Delta Zeta raised over $7,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society through our annual event, Ali's Way. In the Fall of 2017, Delta Zeta raised over $7,000 for our national philanthropy, Starkey Hearing Foundation. Each semester we host fun events in order to raise money for our philanthropies, these events have been everything from game nights to dodgeball tournaments that serve as an amazing way of bringing the USF community together for a great cause. Aside from chapter and campus wide events that raise awareness and money for our philanthropies, individual members are required to complete a total of 18 hours of service per semester. Our emphasis on individual service promotes hands on participation and connects Xi Lambda to the school and community around us. These individual hours are completed on and off campus through volunteering with different organizations such as food banks or clubs on campus dedicated to service.
